XTU Architecture — The Building

The building itself is an architectural destination. Designed by XTU architects Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazières, the structure features a flowing, organic form clad in 2,500 glass and aluminum panels that shimmer in gold and silver tones. The curves reference the swirl of wine, the gnarl of vine roots, and the bend of the Garonne. At 55 meters high and spanning 13,350 square meters, it's a landmark of 21st-century French architecture.

Permanent Collection — Wine Civilizations

The immersive permanent exhibition explores wine's role across cultures and centuries. Through interactive displays, multimedia installations, sensory experiences, and historical artifacts, visitors journey through global wine traditions — from ancient Mesopotamia to contemporary Napa Valley. Highlights include a 3D "Table of Terroirs," olfactory stations, and immersive film projections. Available in 8 languages via companion tablet (included).

360° Belvedere — Panoramic Tasting

The visit culminates at the 8th-floor belvedere, a circular tasting lounge offering 360° panoramic views across the Garonne, Bordeaux's historic center, and the Atlantic horizon. Each visitor receives a tasting glass of wine (selection rotates seasonally among global wines). The floor-to-ceiling windows and curved bar create an unforgettable tasting experience 35 meters above the river.

Temporary Exhibitions & Events

Beyond the permanent collection, La Cité du Vin hosts rotating temporary exhibitions on wine culture, art, and history. The facility also includes a 250-seat auditorium for wine conferences, film screenings, and cultural events.
